Two Roads Diverged in Yellow Wood...

On this particular Sunday morning, for us those two roads diverged somewhere after London Paddington Station. From there we began our unintended tour of the Western England countryside.

On our way to Bath for the day, a slight mishap led us nearly to Plymouth, narrowly missing a half-days train ride and instead diverted us back on our way to Bath Spa but via Exeter St. David's to Westbury. We managed to turn a two hour trip into a five hour trip. Insult added to injury, we arrived at the Roman Baths at 4:45PM, 15 minutes too late. Really? Had we pushed ourselves, going for speed and not style, could we have shaved a mere 20 minutes off our record time to get to the one and only site in Bath before it closed?!? McNally and Magellan we are not, but you'd think we could navigate a simple train ride. Not so, not on this given Sunday.

In the end, we were left with a thoroughly exhausted baby, although a good sport, and a 7-hour round trip ride just to have dinner. At a restaurant we could have found in Covent Garden, an easy 20 minute walk from our flat. Ahhh...well.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence;
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

"With beaded bubbles winking at the brim..." Lucy befriends the bartender at our one stop on Sunday's Odyssey. She is certainly a little too young, but after our trip one can hardly be blamed for making a quick dash to the nearest bar!
