Well folks, expansion's the name of the game and we're all in! About three weeks ago I was visiting Drew in California. After three missed phone calls, Emily finally reached me as Drew and I were pulling up to the base of Temescal Canyon for a little hike before visiting Malibu Family Wines for some tasting (drinking really). After asking if Drew were sitting right there with me she suggested that I ask him to step out of the car. Thinking this a silly suggestion, and perhaps a little suspicious, I exited the vehicle. It was here in this idyllic spot that Emily told me she is pregnant! I let her know this is a much more agreeable time (11AM PDT) than the 3:30AM awakening to "I got two lines!" (how I learned of Lucy's impending arrival) to let me know this news. How thoughtful of her, no? I thought so.
Anyway, what I think is Em's favorite visual for the weekend: She called me later that day to see if I had been able to reach my parents to tell them the news. Em asked what I was up to at that particular moment, so I told her. In Venice, CA, see, Drew and friends hop on their bikes often to get around town. When she was able to reach me this time I happened to be riding Drew's Diamond Back dirt bike circa 1988-ish (he was on his much more stylish beach cruiser with the dice and skull handlebar caps). Somewhat in disbelief she responded "You're going to be a father of two and you're riding a dirt bike?" That's when it kind of hit me that - I'LL BE A FATHER OF TWO! Bearing the title "father" took some getting used to, so certainly you couldn't be taking about me? (I still see nothing wrong with riding the dirt bike.)
So, that's right Lucy has just about 7 short months to get used to being the big sister in the family (well, maybe the middle child - Joey remains the real Queen Bee if you ask her).
The vitals from our first ultrasound:
1. Heartbeat: 166 beats per minute.
2. Due date: December 30, 2009.
3. Looks like a little circus peanut.
So in the coming weeks look for the Electric Boogaloo version of your favorite polls from the first go 'round. And those of you needing a fix of the '80s check out the inspiration for the title of this post - Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo (or you can borrow my dirt bike).
