And then came the furnace...

As noted previously, we decided to replace the carpeting in our upstairs. This was a fun day of moving everything on the second level of our place to either the upstairs bathroom or downstairs. The evacuation took up much of the Sunday before and despite all our hard work, the fellow putting the carpet in was quite put out to have to do a little moving as well (with my help I might add).
As I previously mentioned, I think getting new carpet is more rewarding than, say, a furnace. Well. After a week spent in the cold, on the same day the carpeting folks were gutting one floor of our place, the furnace repairman was available to inspect our heating contraption. It had stopped working about a week earlier (while I was in NY and Bermuda for work, Emily stayed in a sub-60 degree townhouse...for a week!). My appliance repair technician informed me that one option is to replace the furnace. Fortunately, the second option is to replace a significant part functioning (or in this case, not,) somewhere within the metal confines of this device. With two unappealing options, I certainly took the most logical - tear it out and replace the whole system with a coal-burning stove.

So, with this episode almost over, by Thursday evening we will have the carpet finished, the furnace fixed, and all the nursery furniture in place!
